HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The news of Ben and Rene Ruiz's deaths come as a shock for the many people who described the couple as happy, loving and groundbreaking in the gay community.
Houston police say the men, who were in the midst of a divorce, died in a murder-suicide inside a million-dollar home near the Galleria.
Their bodies were discovered Thursday inside a bathroom at their home on Markham Street near Weslayan.
"It's not truly set in yet," said Ben's longtime friend, Edward Sanchez. "I think deep down inside I'm waiting to hear from him."
Sanchez said the couple helped pave the path for the Houston gay community. Ben was a cosmetics director at Laura Mercier.
"They were really kind of pillars of the community when they decided they were going to get married. This was before gay marriage was legal in the United States, this was before it was even legal to get a marriage license in Houston," Sanchez said.

A great plot. Make a Hollywood documentary movie for us all to weep....and secretly give us a chance to snicker.

My X worked for the New Mexico department of children youth and families in Albuquerque. They would get called out for instances of abuse with homosexual couples from time to time. They would bring in LEO ‘s before ever approaching the residence. She told me that when homo relationships go bad, one partner really wants to kill the other one, and kill anybody who stands in the way.

There are 3 little girls I know growing up without parents because dad murdered mom and the killed himself motivated entirely by a divorce.

If they wrote a will it will prolly go to beneficiaries. Going through a divorce in sexually hyper promiscuous gay world is kinda a joke...it is basically a dissolution of a business arrangement..but maybe the beneficiaties staged a murder suicide to get the estate...am sure more will come out on this tangled case.....with no blood offspring their estate is potentially up for grabs...see who shows up wanting their inheritance
