A federal judge in Alexandria, Virginia, expressed deep skepticism Friday about the validity of one of the indictments against Paul Manafort, the former chairman of President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign.
Manafort is the subject of two indictments from the special counsel Robert Mueller's office.
The first, brought in Washington, DC, accuses Manafort of money laundering, failure to register as a foreign agent, and making false statements to investigators. The other, brought in Virginia, charges him with tax fraud, bank fraud, and failing to report foreign bank accounts.
Most of the charges against Manafort relate to his lobbying work for the Ukrainian government and pro-Russian interests.
Manafort appeared in court early Friday to seek the dismissal of the charges outlined in the Virginia indictment. The judge appeared receptive, at least in part, to Manafort's lawyer's argument that because the counts are not directly related to the Russia investigation, they should be dismissed.

Ellis did not immediately rule on Manafort's motion to dismiss the Virginia indictment. A trial date in the case is set for July 10.

'Come on, man!': A federal judge cast serious doubt on Mueller's case against Manafort and suggested he's using it to get Manafort to flip
Yep. it’s Mueller’s M.O..........................
The judge should be very careful between now and July 10th.
Is there only one sane federal judge?
Yes.
It is straight out political witch hunting.
Very nasty.
He will backtrack on this statement very soon...after the Democrat THUGS talk to him, his wife and kids.
Destroy whomever at whatever cost for whatever reason to get to a duly elected president who did not a thing but win an election.
And Jeff Sessions is allowing it to occur right under his nose.
To Hell with him and anyone defending this corrupt jerk.
I think the number of Sessions’ defenders on FR is decreasing dramatically with the exception of EEE.
Judges tend to want to please the power structure of police, prosecutors and politicians. This judge is also courageous.
Now wait a minute. A federal judge could figure out there are problems with the case? Does that not require intelligence _and_ understand USA law? I am in awe there is any such judge.
.
Sessions people are a Cult.
Evidence doesnt sway a Cult.

Sanity!!
There are several others that are slightly less annoying and stupid, but not by much.
Jeff Sessions is the catalyst for ALL of this. But for him, none of this would be.
Jeff Sessions is the reason that people’s lives are being destroyed for NO REASON, and we are paying for it.
I wonder if Michael Caputo and General Flynn would concur with the glowing descriptions of our AG offered by our handful of absolute nitwits around here ;/
Flipping is one thing, lying is another.
If Manafort has nothing truthful that is adverse to Trump, further pressure is suborning perjury. Or, if Manafort has his own skeletons, its prosecution out of spite, because he had some relationship to Trump. Abuse of power, either way.
Am I missing something?
Called them “Liars”. Cool
Judge Ellis is likely a concern troll.
In other words, he’ll probably give the feds a hard time just for show during the trial, then eventually lower the boom good and hard on Manafort.
This federal judge is doing the job that Sessions should be doing
as AG.
Sessions hides while others do the heavy lifting.
He is a cowardly POS.
The questions the judge is asking are the same ones that Sessions
should be asking.
