Yes. The cellphone network needs to know which tower your phone is connected to, in case somebody calls or SMS's your device. When you get a call, not 100% of the cell towers light up seeking your phone.

Got it! Great ‘splainin’ ya did there.

It’s apparent by now I don’t know how the cell comms work. All I know for sure is I hate them, and they cost too damned much money. And they’re a PITA except for the ONLY two apps I have: scientific calculator and a unit conversion jobby.
