Kanye West just said 400 years of slavery was a choice

(CNN)Tuesday brought us two Kanyes.

The first was a man who opened up about his mental health, his family, and his art in a nearly-two hour interview with radio host Charlamagne Tha God. The second was a Kanye who appeared at the TMZ headquarters where he had this to say: "When you hear about slavery for 400 years ... For 400 years? That sounds like a choice." The rapper went on to add: "You were there for 400 years and it's all of y'all. It's like we're mentally imprisoned."

This statement was all about context. and the context Kannya was referring too. He was not referring to blacks being ok with being a slave but he was referring to the idea of victimhood over slavery. his words were not will chosen and then were twisted and edited by TMZ to distort his ideas and concepts. When you watch the video of the interview you can see that they edited so that three separate parts of the interview were put together. this caused the context to be lost to anyone viewing it. then the written media spun it so that when CNN or MSNBC interviews one of the usual suspects they can talks about how wrong and crazy Kenya is.

I think he was trying to express his inner Harriett Tubman when she supposedly said, “I freed a thousand slaves. I could have freed a thousand more if I could have convinced them they were slaves.” Lots of folks saying she didn’t say this... some saying it just appeared out of thin air in the 1990s, but they can’t prove she didn’t either.

According to Wikipedia, 95% of the slave ships arrived in continental America between 1726 and 1825, so slavery was a major institution in America for about 130 years, about 90 of which were in the post-colonial United States. Jim Crow lasted about 100 years, and racial discrimination has been illegal for more than 50 years.

West's comment was very unclear, but he might have meant that slavery was in force for less than half of our country's history, was abolished more than 150 years ago, yet people still use it as an excuse for current-day problems.

host Charlamagne Tha God

Does the idiot using this radio handle even know who Charlemagne is, or did he just think that the name sounded really cool?

West needs to start talking about translaves: today’s blacks who are born free but self-identify as slaves.

He used this Harriet Tubman quote ‘ I freed a thousand slaves and I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves”

If this is how Kanye sees himself, there is still hope. What a great quote by Harriet Tubman.

re “I think Kanje meant that blacks who continue to talk about 400 years of slavery, and have never been a slave for even one day, are adopting a mentality, by choice, that enslaves them by providing that built in excuse for any failure or shortcoming.

The #1 priority of many black “leaders” and some blacks in general seems to be to preserve and enhance their victim status, and that is also a form of enslavement by choic”

Bingo.

I have read that after the slaves were set free some of the petitioned to stay in slavery because they weren’t able to support and feed themselves. They needed the security of being taken care of.

In the early colonies - yes, up north in Massachusetts - colonists were not allowed to free their slaves without posting a bond. The towns didn’t want to take on the expense of caring for the freed slaves. So instead of posting bond the owner would free the slaves but kept them in the home and called them servants.

If you do any kind of genealogy and look at the old census records you’ll see that many families had non-family members living with them. They worked in the house or out on the farm in return for room and board.

He meant that they are still acting like they are still in chains and oppressed. That was the whole context.

He basically was saying we were freed, but people still act like they are oppressed slaves because being down with the struggle is easier than working your way out of your own self-induced misery!

“It’s like we’re mentally imprisoned.”

THAT part is correct.

I think Kanje meant that blacks who continue to talk about 400 years of slavery, and have never been a slave for even one day, are adopting a mentality, by choice, that enslaves them by providing that built in excuse for any failure or shortcoming.

The #1 priority of many black “leaders” and some blacks in general seems to be to preserve and enhance their victim status, and that is also a form of enslavement by choice.

Well stated and interpreted..... He’s right on the money....

Too many use the “ excuse” and too few are willing , like he is, to call them out for it....

Their reference is probably from the Steely Dan song titled “ Kid Charlemagne”

He did not. He said that continuing to think about it and talk about it is a choice.

Another FAKE NEWS report.
