I read an article a long, long time ago about Carter being hand picked for the presidency, so that the rulers behind the scene could use him as a puppet.
Carter ran as a God fearing Bible Believer, but once in office turned into a Socialist/Progressive puppet, and tanked our military and government. Only Reagan could take us out of that abysmal state.
It took Reagan to do what mamsy pamsy Carter couldn’t/wouldn’t with the Iranian hostages.

First, Carter had a dispute with the Shah over Iran’s oil. So yes, the usual Regime topple had to happen.
Carter was warned about Kohmeni, but he said he thought a religious person would be a good choice to install.
Carter would not approve the plan that the military wanted which would have cut Iran off “at the knees”. The rescue was a scaled down attempt that was a fumbled.
After the marine barracks, there were plans that could have taken care of the situation and Regan approved them, but the Sec. of Defense, Casper Weinberger would not give the order.
