Without studying the case, I have an educated supposition that it is weak and small potatoes. Wek because whatever "material assistance" is, it gets watered down if the person giving it is unaware, or if the assistance doesn't translate fairly directly to violence and mahem.
Not that DoJ is clean. Still many many embedded skunks. But it is getting more difficult for them to make substantial wins.
Still, imho, some cases need to go forward as a message to the evil doers. MAYBE this is not one of them. Maybe it is. I don't have sufficient perspective to know.

Excellent analysis. It has become far more difficult for the black hats to set up bag jobs and traps. It has also exposed so many black hats as guilty of unprofessional conduct. Seriously unprofessional conduct. A real epiphany here.
