A Broward County circuit judge delivered a blistering, arm-waving, face-palming, tongue-lashing to a frail, out-of-breath woman pushed into court in a wheelchair who was facing misdemeanor charges following a family feud.
Three days later, the defendant died.
...
Twiggs suffered from asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, also called COPD. She ended up under arrest after squabbling with her 19-year-old daughter.
...
Porter told the Miami Herald that once Twiggs was released from jail and taken back home, she was starving, dizzy and borderline breathless. She had trouble getting her medications in the jail, Porter said.
... Twiggs tries to answer the question, which requires more than a "yes" or "no" because the 19-year-old doesn't live with Twiggs full-time. Mid-sentence, Ehrlich snaps at her: "Excuse me! Don't say anything beyond what I am asking you!" Clearly exasperated, Ehrlich asks Twiggs' lawyer, who is in a different location during the video hookup, to make Twiggs stop talking.
As Twiggs coughs and holds her head, Ehrlich speaks to deputies, who are off-screen: "Can someone there give her water as a kindness?" But the judge's anger continues to boil over. Twiggs tries to tell the judge that she needs medical treatment for her pulmonary problems.
The judge erupts: "Ma'am, I am not here to talk to you about your breathing treatments!"
Again, Ehrlich prevails upon Twiggs' lawyer to teach her better courtroom manners. "Will you say something in the microphone so that she can hear you and you can give her instructions about propriety in the court?" the judge says. "I'm not going to spend all day with her interrupting me," Ehrlich says.
"You've already said too much!"

I don’t understand the justice system anymore. The frail mother 3 days away from death is arrested in a domestic squabble while nothing happens to her healthy 19-year-old brat; following that, the mother of a young baby gets jail for slightly tearing the shirt of a healthy young man. This is downright weird, it appears the weak, the sick, the young mothers do not get any protection at all, while their healthy infinitely stronger tormentors walk free. What I want to know is why that disrespectful nasty young daughter who would fight with her dying mother over a fan, and what kind of worthless man would call the police on the mother of his infant baby and have her sent to jail have no shame, that what they did is okay in a civilized society. The world is upside down, I think.
That judge is wound way too tight. Good grief.
Thats quite a diagnosis.
So much to say and I will refrain because it will be seen as sexist even under Conservative scrutiny.
Id biotch slap that azzhole !! What an utter tool!
How is this douchebag a judge??
She thinks she is Judge Judy and can walk over people.
More like epitome of “Shrill Harridan”.
Judge was female, a male could never get away with such borderline psychotic assininity. Sorry ladies but its true.
You don’t have to apologize if you speak the truth. This psychotic bytch needs to be charged or the family of Ms. Twiggs needs to file a lawsuit against her and I don’t believe in lawsuits but this is one case where I would welcome it.
People in Broward County have a lot of explaining to do. Why would any tourist go there?
Many people responding on the news thread are focusing on the fact that the judge wouldn’t let the woman speak. That is really not what the judge did wrong. She has the right and the authority to ask someone in her court questions and to insist on getting straightforward answers instead of rambling disjointed responses. Having said that, this was all about the way she carried out that prerogative: angry, bullying, snippy, shouting, just ugly in every respect. I have appeared before some very nasty judges in my day, but I’d have to put this judge’s performance at the head of the list of a terrible lack of judicial decorum, basic courtesy and respect and about the worst judicial temperament I’ve ever seen.
Government lions don't care what sheep have to say in South Florida. A stated fact.
The judge is a Democrat and the sick lady was most probably a Democrat as well. Wonder what the judge would have done if she thought the lady was a Republican and a Trump supporter?
Me too.
Saw it on Fox News.
Wow what is the deal with Broward County?
Any decent people who are stuck there have my sympathy.
There is something very wrong with Broward County.
I used to work for its congressman when it was a sane and safe place to live.
What happened besides being overrun by Democrats?
