I stand alone here on FR that the electric car revolution is coming, not because of “green” but because it makes sense, quiet, smooth, fast, and soon the batteries will be stellar to make it happen. ( 2d gen solid state )
There is a role for electric vehicles. What is not liked is the government mandate regarding the situation.
Heck, there is even a role for ethanol. But the government makes it one size fits all, that is the problem with centralized government.
Electric Golf Carts have been successful for decades.
Speculation on my part, ( note I had access to marvelous plug-in Hybrid for a year and enjoyed it in full E mode more so than under ICE power ) is that the consumer will like it better ( yes charge time is the issue), and it is a no brainer for the manufacturers. On the Manufacturers, they will have vendors galore for batteries, harnesses, motors, etc and not umpteen hrs of engine development and testing programs and then going for EPA certification for emissions. For engines and transmissions think billions or it was in the 90's, they may have streamlined the processes, however it is a huge financial nut to crack. Will cars get cheaper because it? Probably not, maybe it will stave of price increases, who knows.
