Crabs in a bucket is a metaphor for the "black community." Some people say that whenever a "black" is successful amd tries tp escape the bucket, the other "blacks" drag him back down into the bucket.
It may apply to other groups, but I've only heard it applied to the "black community."
Probably cause I'm racist with my white privilege and stuff.

The lab mate that used the analogy was black, but we were in metro D.C. at the time and likely referring to non-blacks (but I cannot remember the conversation).
