What the late Lionel Trilling used to call the liberal imagination was captured by the plight of two black men who went to a Philadelphia Starbucks and didn't order anything. 8,000 Starbucks stores closed yesterday for sensitivity training and the conscience of an anguished world pulsated with guilt and grief over the arrest of the two men, whose only offense was to stand there.
The two men were exactly right: The right thing to do in Starbucks is not to order anything, because the coffee is disgusting. Starbucks' response, to be sure, was incommensurate with the problem: Rather than subject their employees to the ritual farce of sensitivity training, the company should spend money on high-quality coffee beans, and roast them lightly rather than burn them into acidic volcanic ash. The best coffee (namely Italian espresso) is not bitter, but bittersweet, like dark chocolate. High-quality Italian coffee (for example Illy or Lavazza) is widely available in American supermarkets, and the persistence of Starbucks in the face of higher-quality competition is a testimony to the poverty of the American palate.

LOL, Citgo, me neither. My wife doesn’t understand it, but even if they have the lowest prices, I drive on by.
Oh, by the way, I wasn’t talking about places like WAWA and things like that...it is commonly accepted they have public restrooms for travelers and such.
I have convenience store, pizza shop places like that.
See, even I have standards...:)
You almost stole my line.
“Low as they are, I have some standards.”
French? Was it made in a Boulangerie in Paris? What type of BS cultural appropriation is it for you to call this American merde “French Bread”. You, madame, have triggered me. :-)
I love hoppy and malty beer over bland beers. Most German beers are bland lagers. So I disagreed with him on that. But the overall gist was hilarious and he made his point well!
LOL, that is probably what I meant to say!
For years, ts been a fad to complain about Starbucks. If you dont like the place dont walk in the door and stop your whining. Regardless, most of the people who bitch about Starbucks coffee like the watered down airplane excuse for coffee.
I think if two *whatever* guys came and refused to buy anything but sat and didn't say they were waiting for a friend, they would be asked to leave
Of course, we don't know if they said they were "waiting for a friend" - just that the barista told the cops "they are refusing to purchase anything or to leave"
That is bias. It is bias rooted in ‘societal memory’ ie black males jack cars more ‘perceptively’ in public than white guys. However for a law abiding black guy, I’m sure this is just irritating if not more than irritating.
I have trooped into Starbucks in different cities, used their wifi to check my location or a place and then walked out without buying anything. If you don’t spend more than 5 to 10 minutes they don’t mind. Even the restrooms they don’t mind unless there is code or if it’s a busy time.
A private business is not a public gathering place. I own my own business, and if people want to hang out and not spend money, IT IS UP TO ME whether they can hang out or not. I don’t care if they’re purple, white, brown, yellow, red or black. The color of using my space is the color of money.
“...but if youre black, their new training will require to them apologize to you for even expecting you to act like a grown up, instead of an over-grown whiny baby.”
A BIG ASS national problem that only requires a good spanking.
