I think they’ve discovered some ancient memes from the excavations at Pompeii. Stuff like “Atticus sticks it to Tertius” or something along those lines.
The original “meme” was an invention of Richard Dawkins to explain crap he didn’t understand, kind of a “Darwin of the Gaps” sort of thing. It’s nice that we use it to describe snarky internet posts and nothing that anybody seriously thinks exists.
