Breaking: US and UK issue new alert about hacking into internet infrastructure by Russian state. Targeting routers, switches and network devices. Activity seen for at least a year so predates recent tension. Potentially millions of machines targeted - govt and industry.
"Once you own the router you own the traffic that traverses the router” says one US official. US/UL Believe intention has been for espionage, intellectual property theft but White House official also says cannot rule out possibility of pre-positioning for destructive attacks.
