As I read it, last night’s Syrian strikes were a feint, meant to lull the real enemy (Iran) into thinking they had weathered the military response of U.S. and allies to the alleged gas attack.
Another benefit: Measuring Russian responses, electronic and otherwise.

Word on the web from what I am gathering from others on the web about the Syrian Air Strike.
