Even the name; you might as well call it a half-breed colon.

Absolutely! Semi-colon needs to present the case for it’s right to exist.

If you need a semi-colon, ask why the *clauses* aren’t just two distinct sentences. No time to review the intricacies right now, but, IMO, semi-colon needs to decide if it’s a period or a comma.

Just rewrite the dang sentence(s)!

I like the option play.

I often put on my flashers - emergency lights - so I have right and left turns covered, once I decide; which gives me flexibility.

I use the semicolon as a super-comma, when I really want to make a point. Like typing in all caps, it draws attention to the superiority of the statement.

I also use the smiley face a lot.

I am very fond of semi-colons and use frequently in my writings. Not poetry though.
