Building 8s goal at Facebook is to create and ship new, category-defining consumer hardware products that are social first. To do so at scale. And to power this with a breakthrough innovation engine modeled after DARPA.
As a team of world-class experts, we drive innovation in the areas of augmented and virtual reality, artificial intelligence, connectivity, and more and operate on aggressive, fixed timelines with extensive use of partnerships in universities, and small-large businesses.
I don’t do it often, but it seems that every time I read a story from WaPo, I have to pick my jaw up off the floor. I guess they suffer from projection syndrome and can’t help it, but you would think that an editor would get a clue...
If you don’t mind, I like both formats, for differing reasons.
Your format allows for rather quick turnaround without a lot of effort (or so I would imagine). This IMHO has value in a quickly changing news situation.
NDI’s format allows convenient sponging by the reader of the primary source Q information. This also has obvious value. However, it is difficult to generate NDI’s format without your format as a prerequisite, to prevent creep.
Ideally there could IMHO be a third stage consisting of a succinct analysis based on consensus of the first two stages. However, difficulties might include defining succinct, consensus, and finding a volunteer who can generate timely, consistent and knowledgeable analyses. Eg, the analysis could wait until a thread on a given set has been “retired” in the current sense (it however runs the risk of re-opening a previously “retired” thread, which in turn might or might not introduce a notion of multi-stage thread retirement).
Bldg 8... Overseeing everything is Regina Dugan, the former DARPA executive who Facebook CEO Zuckerberg poached from Google’s advanced projects division.
10/2017 Regina Dugan, the head of Facebooks secretive hardware lab called Building 8, is leaving the company after just 18 months. ...

Some of that secrecy faded Wednesday, when the group unveiled its first two projects: a “brain-to-computer interface” that would allow us to send thoughts straight to a computer, and technology to “hear” or absorb language through vibrations on our skin.
LOL! hang in there.... it’s like the zen of harp tuning.... once the thing is tuned, it’s time to tune again....
You are too kind. Thank you. Blushing. Not really all that great.
The Wall Street Journal said that Building 8 will focus on making hardware similar to the 360-degree camera the company showed off earlier this week. The Facebook Surround 360 can capture everything in its surroundings in 3D, ideal for capturing video for virtual reality playback. The device is open-sourced, so hardware makers can come up with their own takes on the internals and build their own versions.
