Same here.
I think what we need to keep sight of is that knowledge and tools are a double-edged sword. Fire can be used to keep you warm or to burn down your house.
I fear that many of us who have done cutting edge research have thought that we were developing fire to keep us warm but we did not realize that those at the top who were in charge of deploying the fire were planning to burn down houses. Including ours.
I don’t know about DARPA per se, but I now have some deep reservations about some of the places I’ve worked for in the past.
Agreed on that point! Not saying there aren’t those with bad intent in the mix, just that there are some good ones too.
