Think about writing a thriller. How do you achieve verisimilitude without having the real life experiences? Those who try from the outside end up seeming shallow and clunky.
This is why Q has to be a team with some members well-versed in military/intelligence operations. Too many experienced people out there in the real world would immediately pick up on a faker...it’s almost impossible to keep up with jargon, hardware, the truth behind historical ops, knowledge of how chain of command really works, authenticity.
Whomever they are, it’s not some LARPer.
