Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg tells NBC News in a new interview that users of the popular social media platform would have to pay a subscription fee in order to avoid the company's data-driven advertisements. "We don't have an opt-out at the highest level," Sandberg told NBC's Savannah Guthrie in an interview airing Friday on the "Today" show amid heightened scrutiny of the company's data-driven ad practices. "That would be a paid product."

You hit the nail on the head.
Unfortunately most of the sheeple are ignorant of that or don’t give a damn.
But, “smart enough not to give it to them in the first place” means not signing up to Facebook. The Sheeple must have Facebook.
I could see if it were similar to Amazon’s Fire tablet. Pay 15 buck one time fee and the ads are gone off your fire (the ads are used to supplement the Fire tablets low price).
But a subscription to get rid of ads? That tells me FB has been deep diving into user data to sell advertising. I wonder if they know how to spell myspace.
