I can imagine they are readily available. Outdoor courts, especially clay, need cover from the rain. Why not make them look like a court?
Indoor gym floors may be too slick for decent courts but specific fabrics can be stretched over the floor (or cushioning) to facilitate team play/practice.
BYW, the latter was used for my college team in 1978.
