It is a Germanic language from the Anglo-Saxons, with some Latin grammar infused in it. While it is a “bastard language” (which makes it very difficult to learn), it is very different from a Romance language.
I’m not sure you can state that it is different from a Romance language — it has a strict SVO format as in French, because both of them lack the declinations one sees in German or Dutch.
