Anybody watch Jesus Christ Superstar tonight?
I saw bits and pieces, did not like it.
I did however see Alice Coopers’ entire performance and got a little geeky.
Watched it with my daughter’s. Could not believe NBC would allow a Jesus-based production. Good news, indeed.
Great production. “I don’t know how to love him” broke my heart. The Coop rocked!
I have never seen it.
In 1971 I was dating a real cutie. Her Father was a brilliant man with a large number of patents in his name. He was also a sincere Christian.
His Daughter who was a really nice girl, liked “Jesus Christ Superstar”. It was probably the only thing they disagreed on. Otherwise she practically worshiped him.
The fact that he thought it harmful was good enough for me.
Does anyone realize that it is Judas, and not Jesus, who is the ‘hero’ in this production?

Here are some of the main points of the article that you might find informative:
1. The play contains many elements that are, in fact, biblical, but upon closer inspection, its failings become very apparent.
2. Judas has the honor of singing the first song, and complains that Jesus is caught up in His own fame.
3. Mary Magdalene sings one of the rock opera’s most famous songs, “I Don’t Know How To Love Him”. In it she sings that He is “just a man”.
4. Judas warns Jesus of scandal because of His proximity to Mary Magdalene. Jesus’ response is to say “enjoy the good” while he has it.
5. Judas is portrayed as an advocate of the poor. No mention is made that he is a thief.
6. Jesus enters Jerusalem on foot, not on a donkey. He is lifted up by the crowd on a pallet.
7. The praise of the crowd is not spontaneous. Jesus initiates it by singing.
8. Jesus teaches the crowd about the Kingdom of God by saying “You can win it.”
9. The next scene shows Jesus ending the celebration of an adoring crowd by telling them that death can only be defeated by dying. There is no mention of His resurrection.
10. Jesus tells a crowd of people who want to be healed, “There’s too many of you. There’s too little of me. Leave me alone!” He doesn’t heal anyone.
11. Jesus tells the disciples at the Last Supper, “I must be mad, thinking you’ll remember me!”
12. When Jesus prays in the garden He says He is no longer inspired. He says He is “sad and tired”. He ends His song with “Take me now, before I change my mind.”
13. Pilate makes accusations against Jesus, instead of saying that he finds no fault with Him.
14. The play ends with the crucifixion, but it doesn’t represent the resurrection.
In my opinion, this play is not an innocent musical that takes some poetic license with the truth about Jesus for the sake making the show entertaining. It is blasphemous, satanic, and should be avoided by all Christians.
A fundamental characteristic of evil is that it contradicts the Word of God. A common deception is to mix a few lies with a lot of truth. Many people can be tricked that way. They might not notice the lies mixed with the truth. In other words, when you mix just a little poison in your food, the result is still poisonous food, and poison can kill.
I made it through about 15 minutes. Didn’t like past the opening guitar riffs.
Does it not seem odd that a big production to be broadcast on Resurrection Sunday would fail to mention anything about the Resurrection?

The Main Stream Media has no problem presenting a Jesus, as long as it is NOT the Jesus of the Bible.
Instead of “not entirely biblical,” I’d say utter blasphemy.

I watched the Blu-ray of 10 Commandments on Friday. A fantastic restoration job that looks so good the blue screen shots stick out like a sore thumb. But that doesn’t spoil it.
I began watching it but the opening scene showed a black power fist painted on a wall...and I chose not to watch anymore political/racist activism.

John Legend is no Ian Gillian.
The network version was sharper than one would expect. Believe the movie made in 1956. The perception and color were both as vivid as theater viewing. Pleased with the Samsung HDTV at the moment. Even the B/W films are more pleasing to the eye. Colorization or better tee vee, the evening was well spent.
I watched it.......................in 1972....................
They remastered the film in 6K, so I look forward to a good 4K version. I watched it up converted to 4K - not the same thing but pretty darn good - and it was fantastic.
I did not see it, but around the water cooler this morning (metaphorically speaking) I heard mixed reviews.
What turned me off watching it was the interview with John Legend in which he said “Jesus died for what he believed in” as if he were a SJW martyr.
I watched about 10 minutes of NBC. I saw Judas take the silver and then it went to commercial. Then I saw a little bit more and it again went to commercial. I found it really annoying that show had a little box, down on the right of the screen, that showed ‘backstage’ during the voluminous commercials. I simply couldn’t be bothered to watch this overblown NBC ‘concept’ production.
You know our world is in a mess when shows like this and Godspell are presented as entertainment . . . and they came out in the 70’s, so how much more wicked is our world 40 years later.
Even so, come Lord Jesus!
