I'm feeling like hearing some interesting music that I've never heard before, so I thought I'd start a thread on FReeper's favorite underrated bands. Post several good examples of their music and why you feel they're underrated. Should be fun.

I was never a fan. When I was in college, I was on a student entertainment committee. We booked Head East for a concert.

John Schlitt wasn’t lead anymore.

IMHO, “Some Girls” was the last great Stones album.

Nice to see some love for Social D, my favourite band. And for the Reverend Horton Heat.

I’ve been on an Irish/Celtic kick the last year, been getting into Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, the Mahones, the Rumjacks, and the Real McKenzies, all under rated IMO.

A good recent song featuring Colin...

Yep, heard that one, a good tune although I'm not familiar with the band that performed it.

Saw him in Baton Rouge back late 70’s, then recently at Fillmore West. That Bridge of Sighs riff moves mountains!

Asleep at the Wheel.

My first date with my future wife was to see Asleep at the Wheel opening for the The nighthawks at a Bar named Spankys on Nov 3, 1978.

I’ve like the band ever since. I retired awhile ago and the following song was my go to every morning and evening commute for the entire the last year of my “career”. Lifes Good!

This is the album they were touring to promote,

Can't believe I forgot the House of Freaks, from the late 80's and early 90's, the epitome of overlooked bands. A two person outfit long before the White Stripes came on the scene. Three strong albums and a fourth that had its moments. A sample from each album:

Crack in the Sidewalk

Big Houses

Never

Whipping Boy

Not a big Pixies fan but yeah, they were doing in the ‘80s what became big in the ‘90s.

They used to play outdoors at the Tempe New Year’s Eve block party. You could here them all over downtown.

I saw Asleep at the Wheel in a small night club in Philadelphia in the 80s. I never forget them and always tried to follow them because the Western Swing sound was so fun and entertaining especially compared to the flash in the pan punk rock/new wave bands that were popular at the time.
