Got to add "Ride the High Country" with Randolph Scott and Joel McCrea, directed by Sam Peckinpah.I was wondering if someone was going to bring that up. Just watched it again a couple months ago on the new blu-ray. Better than I remembered it. "I just want to enter my house justified."

I am reading the comments. It is obvious that we need a Top 100. There are just too many westerns to whittle it down to 10. May even need to expand that to Top 150!

Classic.”
He lied...just said it for the movie. He loves ‘em.

Have you ever seen “The Westerner” with Gary Cooper and Walter Brennan? It’s a great movie and the authenticity is outstanding.

SHANE is worth it just to watch Jack Palance. It also had one of the first true to life shootings, of Elisha Cook. No “Bang”, then the shot person falls and bloodlessly rolls out of the scene. We see him blown back and into the mud.

It was interesting to see Van Heflin, usually a strong character actor, play a farmer befuddled by the whole affair. Glenn Ford usually played good guys, but here he makes a fine psychopathic killer.
About 25 years ago, Van Heflin's son was my physical therapist. Nice guy.

A fun movie but so historically inaccurate it is pitiful.

Yup. Im a big Lonesome Dove fan. Though after Gus dies, I lose interest in watching the rest of it.
I thought Lonesome Dove the movie was pretty mediocre, and really proved the adage that the book (which was spectacular) is always better than the movie. I mean, Danny Glover?! C'mon.
