I taught in a local elementary school here in so Cal when I was young and naive. Just long-term subbing, to see which grade I might like. One day I sent about half my students to the principal’s office,. Sixth graders, just totally off the wall Inner City kids. At the end of the day, I went to his office and told him I was never coming back. (I had decided that street walking would pay better and would be less stressful, haha). He closed the door and said, “You know Tommy? His parents let little girls spend the weekend with him. What the heck am I supposed to do in the 5 hours I have him?”
I suspect Tommy in Kindergarten could easily have done this. Turns my stomach. No solution beyond those which the lawmakers will not consider.
PS I got a tech job and then homeschooled my own. Never Ever Ever put your kids in public schools.
” Never Ever Ever put your kids in public schools.”
You mentioned that your experience was in an inner city school.
Most public schools are NOT like that.
.
“and then homeschooled my own”
Good for you.
