18-star, 13-stripe American national flag, made sometime in the period between 1876 and the 1890's to commemorate the admission of Louisiana as the 18th state. Among surviving flags, 18 is one of the rarest counts.

They are rare because they are considered “folk art” being made unofficially by people for their own use because Congress did not authorize any additions to the semi-official flag of the United States, whic at that time had 15 stars and 15 stripes. They finally took action in 1818 and defined what the flag should look like with thirteen stripes, and a star for each state, adding five in one leap to 20.
