In earlier versions of Idol did viewer votes only start at the top 14? They’re dumping 5 out of 12 this week and the same next week so only 14 will be “in” the voting.

Looking at the current contestants it looks like the judges have set up various “interest group” candidates (country, rock, R&B, Pop, etc.) including the tranny market before a single vote from America is registered.

For me, I just love seeing raw talent first introduced and then honed and perfected - I do believe they work hard with their candidates but to lose so many promising candidates without an audience vote is disappointing.

Of course, I cannot remember what I had for breakfast yesterday so I could be wrong here. ;-)

Without going back and looking it up, I thought they weeded it down to top 24. 12 men and 12 women, before the viewers got to vote. But, I could be wrong on that. I just don’t recall it being 7 of each when they started letting viewers vote.

Having said that, in the past they always did an even amount of men vs women. This year that might be different since eliminating 5 each week ‘could’ give us more of one sex over the other.

With the first eliminations we have 4 men and 3 women. If next week we get 4 women and 3 men, then I will think it is staged. I’m curious to see if they continue changing the format.

I’m wondering if they will combine them and have them all do their performances in one night and have results the next night. In the past, they had it where the men performed one night and the women performed the next night and the results were a third night. At least until they whittled it down a bit. I’m wondering if they just did the whittling on their own without letting viewers vote.

I don’t like that they didn’t let viewers vote, but I suppose its their way of not only stacking the deck, but making sure the freaks get more air time.

Sings Coldplay's "Yellow" with Banners. What can you say? It's a Coldplay song.

Katy: A good push n pull. You're tone is spectacular. Give us a couple more notes next time you sing.

Lionel: That didn't give me (you're individuality)

The audience boos him, which means he must have said something truthful.

Luke: No matter what happens to you in this competition, you have all the tools. We've seen you're wheelhouse.

Well they wrote her off.
