Owls were also frequently present in Dr John Mack’s alien abduction sessions (seen by abductees). It seems that they are false memories/images which hide creatures too terrifying to accept.

As an aside, owls are often screen memories (Freud was the first to use the concept IIRC). Screen memories are used to "screen out" or hide something that is just too frightening to face consciously.

In the case of psychiatrist John Mack's work with abductees, owls were screen memories for gray aliens.

BTW, when Dr Mack first encountered the owl screen memories, he suspected that they might be hiding sexually traumatizing experiences of the patients.
