Aren’t prions the culprits in chronic wasting disease in deer/elk? Did this disease start in high concentrated pedo areas since the prions live in the soil? Crossover spinoff connection?

CWD most likely got established in the western US from mink escaped from a mink farm in, IIRC, Montana. One of the reasons it’s become entrenched I believe is due to fire suppression activities preventing its destruction in areas where its become endemic.
