Somehow, I don’t remember Judy being black or Dr. Smith being a female or Major West being hispanic.
I guess we should feel lucky the Robot isn’t transgender... or maybe I’m presuming too much.

There’s only ONE Netflix series I’m waiting for and it’s Punisher Season 2, probably the most pro-gun series on TV. Highly recommended and it laughs at liberal gun control.

If race isn't made an issue in this reboot (and that remains to be seen, granted), I couldn't care less about the race of the actors.
Can I scream “cultural appropriation”? I’m a white male, and I feel like they are stealing an important part of my childhood by turning a title, plot, and characters I grew up with into something I don’t recognize. It should not be allowed. /sarc
Actually I have to laugh because a group of “diversity-oriented entertainers” can’t beat what old white men did 50 years ago, so they have to appropriate the content rather than produce good original ideas (which they must not have). Seems like those old white men who made the original should be proud, not offended that their ideas are being appropriated by lesser minds.
From the trailer, it looks like the expedition was originally supposed to involve a large number of colonists in a very large starship, composed of a bunch of modules, one per family. There is some sort of event damaging the starship, and the Robinsons’ module/landing-pod makes it out and lands on a nearby planet, where they are marooned.
This makes a bit more sense than being “lost” in space, while having a starship which manages to wind up at a new star system every week.
Similarities: Lost in Space & Gilligan’s Island
1. Gilligan’s Island & Lost in Space both ran for 3 seasons.
2. Both had 1 B&W season & 2 color seasons
3. Both were from the mid 1960’s
4. Both were on CBS
5. Both were about 7 stranded castaways.
6. Both had 4 male characters, 3 female characters.
7. Both had 1 married couple
8. Both had a character with the title “Professor”
9. Both had visits from other “Wanderers” potential rescuers that never panned out.
10. Both series ended without resolution.
11. Both series were cancelled even though their ratings were pretty good.
12. Both were critically panned but had a devoted fan-base.
13. Both appealed to children.
14. Both varied their opening themes/Visual openings.
15. Each had a character who constantly messed things up.
16. Both series had a pilot episode which wasn’t seen by the public until the 1990’s.
17. Both pilots had footage used in early episodes but needed to be matched carefully due to some different characters.
Some episode similarities:
1. Both had at least 3 stories (in which at least 3 main characters) had exact look-a likes.
2. Both had an episode in which a robot was found in thick brush each robot turned out to be functional.
3. Both had an appearance of then child actor Kurt Russel. (Also Struther Martin was in both)
4. Both had early (first 6 or 7) episodes which had to run in sequence to make sense.
5. Both had an episode with this very similar sequence:
A) Lost in Space with a wish machine. Dr Smith wishes for a complete Jupeter 2 so everyone may go back home - Although the wish is granted, it turns out that the new Jupiter 2 is less the two feet in diameter, and therefore useless as transportation.
B) Gilligan’s Island with the robot. The robot is instructed to build a complete boat so that everyone may go home - Although the robot builds the boat, it’s less then 2 feet long and therefore useless as transportation.
6) Both had an episode where two characters left, and wound up in an unknown location only to discover, they were in fact in a different part of the same location and thus, still stranded.

I can see a female Dr. Smith.
West should have beat up Zachary Smith at the end of every episode. A female antagonist should be able to get away with such.
