According to Levin, tariffs look good at first, but would ultimately destroy our steel production. Basically, while they would make our steel more competitively priced domestically, they would make it uncompetitive internationally and destroy our ability to export steel, thus opening the door for China to take a bigger share of the export business. We have faced unfair competition for decades with steel. Trump is doing the right thing.

If it turns out the asians are all cooking the numbers and selling us bad steel it will make Trump look like the greatest stable genius in the world.

I’m agnostic on whether they are good or bad for trade and/or the steel industry. I’ll let others who know more than I do argue it out.
But I do think there could be additional reasons for the tariffs. Not just the surface reasons.
So far my only “complaint” about Trump is that he’s too slow. Actually he seems to be getting things done at warp speed, but I am super impatient.
