As the FL facts have emerged, maybe arming the teachers is a premature solution at this point in time.
It appears that many many warnings about the perp were received by various government agencies and nothing happened. In addition, the reports of the on-site officer as well as some arriving deputies did not attempt to “get involved” beyond taking safe cover. Maybe these things need to be “fixed” first.
At least where I live, the overwhelming number of teachers are on the left. Assuming they could be trained and armed, I wonder if they have the mental ability in an actual incident to pull the trigger on a “crazed gunman student” who they used to teach, or know the parents, etc. In addition, I ask if lefty teachers would be responsible enough to keep the gun safely away from students who might want to get access to it, or be able to be overpowered by a student. Again, as the facts are emerging about how law enforcement failed at multiple levels, perhaps that is the problem that needs to be fixed.
I see you're familiar with what's happening in our schools... Yes, the FBI needs to be fixed, the local police, cops assigned to schools, grants given to the school systems... etc etc. It all needs to be looked at - all needs to be fixed. Classroom gun safes? Every room would have one, but only a few would have guns in them?
