I've decided to purchase a RRA left-handed AR10 in .308. The question is, what scope?

This is going to compliment my AR-15 (link below). I have the scope dialed in on the AR-15 so it shoots a 30 round 3/4" group at 25 yards and about 1 1/2" at 50 yards. That isn't due to the scope but rather my inability to completely hold the rifle steady but I'm getting better.

That said, I want to shoot out to 200 yards and am looking for a good scope that will allow me to clearly see a 10" wide target and clearly see the bullseye. The scope on my AR15 isn't strong enough to do that.

No hunting involved, this is simply to put holes in paper.

My budget is in the $500-$700 range.

Any suggestions?

Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50. It’s a lot of scope for the money and will definitely let you see the bullseye at 200 yards. If you want to stretch out past 200 yards, it will definitely be up for the task as well. It comes with a zero stop, an illuminated reticle, a lifetime warranty, a sun shade, and rock solid turret knobs. I have one on my 300 win mag but I want another one for my AR10T which currently has a Nikon 2.5x10 tactical monarch which is very nice but it doesn’t zoom on to that bullseye the way the Vortex does.

Vortex makes a good scope that’s very reasonable in the Diamondback Tactical.

I have a strike eagle on my AR15 too. And I also like it as a tactical scope. I don’t play with it enough though as I’m usually focused on my 7.62 rifles. I just came into a whole lot of 5.56mm components so I think I’ll be playing with it some more this summer.

Depending on the budget you can grab a good scope ranging any where from $150 to thousands of dollars. I am running a Leapers UTG on multiple AR’s and AK’s. 4x16x56 and 4x16x44. Both have side adjustable parallax which is a must for killing paper. All my shooting is on the rang nowadays and I find the adjustable parallax hones that scope in. What ever you choose at least get that adjustable parallax and your shooting will improve significantly.

Another vote for Leupold. Mine carries a VX3 CDS 3.5-10

Good gun and nice set-up. I am partial to a fix front sight but to each their own. Leupold 4X12. 12 power gets you a good medium distance and 4 power is what the marines use on their battle rifle. While a hunting leupold is not a trijicon it is more suited for target shooting at 200 yard than the trijicon.

I’d go with 24x if you are not going to be shooting beyond 200 yards. I prefer Leopold target scopes with 1/8 minute turrets for long range, but I have a Tasco 24x on my 22-250 that delivers 1/2 minute of angle out to 350 yards at a fraction of the cost.

For your rifle I would strongly suggest you check out the Primary Arms 1-6x 7.62 ACSS. The big thing going on with scopes right now, especially tactical scopes for the range you are shooting, is not the scope itself but the reticle. Basic scope technology has been pretty static for years with better and better equipment getting cheaper and cheaper. Most of the attention has been on red dot type optics. But the ACSS reticle is a real game changer. The reticle is a combination of the best parts of a standard, mil-dot and BDC reticle with an additional line to the side you can use to calculate distance on the fly. Once you learn how to use it (there are "how-to videos on youtube) you can estimate distance very close for the proper holdover, quickly, all in your head. It's very effective out to as far as 800 yards.

Very respected military sniper types are wowing over this thing and saying it is perfect for the mid-range "designated marksman" type shooter. You can get good accuracy without needing to learn a bunch of that traditional long range class room type stuff or needing a range finder. T-Rex of "Sniper 101" was raving about it. This guy really knows his stuff as any fan of the "Sniper 101" series knows and you here is his review:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nl51ISZMMmk&t=572s&index=36&list=WL

It's going to be my next scope, whether for the 5.56 or the 308 I'm not sure yet. So many toys, such little money.
