Danica done: Patrick wrecks in final race of NASCAR career
Washington Post ^ | February 18 at 6:24 PM | Dan Gelston | AP

Patrick’s final NASCAR race at the Daytona 500 captured her career to perfection. She had photojournalists embedded with her, a hunky celebrity NFL QB boyfriend by her side, social media buzzing — and a crumpled Chevy towed to the garage that put a premature end to her race.

Patrick smooched her boyfriend and then kissed her NASCAR career goodbye when she was caught up in a wreck in Sunday’s race.

Her final win-loss record was a dud: 0 for 191 in the Cup series.

She won on fuel mileage not talent. It is liking winning when the race is called due to rain. #fakewin

So what? Every driver on the track would have taken the win in a heartbeat, tallied up the points in their season's totals, deposited the prize money, and counted the win in their career win total.

Patrick had an unsuccessful career in terms of wins but she did have that win. In terms of wealth creation, Patrick had a great career. If I had a net worth of $60 million, I'd retire too.

GoDaddy, the company she represents is an equal embarassment of failure, shame and hype.

How so?

GoDaddy has very low rates for domain name purchase and renewal—about $14.99/year—compared with ripoffs like Network Solutions, who charges $35/year. I left Network Solutions because of their exorbitant prices.

Politics aside, GoDaddy as a domain registrar provides very affordable rates as well as great customer service...

“She may not have won, but she’s a true racer.”

7 Indy car podiums in as many seasons. Not bad. She’s also a class act, or so I hear. A buddy of mine goes to every race at the brickyard and as many social meet and greets he can get into. He’s spoken with her several times and says she’s a real sweetheart.

Yet, they make more money. How can that be ?

It’s because they sell your (MY) information to anyone and everyone. The calls, the emails, the BS are just the worst. It doesn’t stop. They are the worst company out there for reselling your information. When I register a domain there I get calls that number - and I’m not making this up, this isn’t a one-day thing and this isn’t exageration - 22 calls a day. Each person I have to personally ask to not call me back (And they are Indian / Chinese call houses and don’t remove you anyway) and they are replaced by more and more.

GoDaddy charges less, yet makes more. Nothing is free.

Every driver would take the win, but EVERY driver knows it is a tarnished victory like a blemish in the record book.

Patrick had an unsuccessful career in terms of wins

She had an unsuccessful career on many levels. Her average finish, top 10's & top 5's considering the level of equipment she had were abyssmal.

She was completely exposed as a terrible driver having come from Indy car with greater down force, larger contact patches (more grip) and lesser competition and failed to convert to stock car racing.

She may not have won, but she’s a true racer.

If by true racer, you mean she ran around in the back and crashed alot, then yeah, she's a good racer. Her talent is right up there with Michael Waltrip (and that's not a compliment).

I have no quarrel with her. She never seemed to say that she was treated unfairly.

And I know I don't have the nerve to drive a car 200 miles an hour.

In unofficial races, yes. I've won at Talledaga in an official race.

She was always a middle of the road driver with a knack for staying out of most wrecks and finishing without destroying her car. She seemed to be a good teammate and attracted sponsors. While you can’t call that stellar, it’s better than many.

I’ll cut her some slack.

Not really. Anyone can win a plate race. You don't even need top equipment. Danica had top equipment and squandered it. It's not all her fault as to NASCAR as she didn't have enough experience with stock cars and didn't transfer over until later in her career. She certainly didn't follow the trajectory of Tony Stewart. He had talent, Danica didn't. Danica was a gimmick who could bring sponsorship money to a ride.

Whatever. Even if it was pure luck, Patrick held the #1 spot when the race ended. If you want to put an asterisk by it in the record book, fine, but it still shows in the record book as a victory. Patrick was racing in the same conditions as every other driver.

She was completely exposed as a terrible driver

I never suggested otherwise. However, accumulating a net worth of $60 million by age 35 is a hugely successful career.

Given Danica was paid $12 million per year to drive NASCAR, I'm guessing that modeling contributed only a fraction of her net worth. Was it okay for Melania Trump to model? I wouldn't want my daughter to model but as long as it isn't explicit stuff, I don't have an issue with other women doing it.

I beg to differ. She is impressively talented. She has a handicap, she’s small and she doesn’t have the stamina of a fit male ( sorry if the truth hurts ) and despite that she ran with the big dogs. talk her down all you like it does not change the facts. A real racer as you profess to be should appreciate that.

Never saw Melania wheel a race car so can't comment there.

Let's consider another real world example. Danica started at the top level of NASCAR at age 30 and had 191 starts with 0 top 5's and 7 top 10's. Average starting and finishing position was about the same at 25/24. She has been celebrated as some super talented racer.

Robert Pressley started at the upper level of NASCAR at age 30 had 205 starts with 5 top 5's and 11 top 10's. Average start and average finish are about the same at 26. Robert did have 10 Xfinity level wins however.

Was Robert Pressley held in the same regard as Danica? Nope.

Danica had a ride in the sport cause she could bring in the sponsorship not because she had any special talent. There are plenty of male drivers who are in similar positions. It is highly unlikely that Austin Dillon would have a ride other than the fact he is Richard Childress' grandson.

On the flip side, if you look at someone like Kyle Larson, whose family had little money, he rose through the sport on talent.

Your comment only makes sense if it were the days before power steering, downforce packages and other technology like cool suits. Using your logic, Rico Abreu is a racing god.

Face it, she had top level equipment and did nothing with it. Once she was exposed, her sponsors bailed. Her statistics in Cup are almost identical to Robert Pressley. Was he impressively talented? He actually had 10 Xfinity wins.

The top racers are he most physically fit, a fact. That’s why Stewart sucked in his out years, he was fat and out of shape, he also had great equipment. I’m done now.
