You can read my great grandfather's memories of the Lincoln Assassination Trial. He was in charge of the investigation for Stanton, was one of the special judge advocates during the trial, and put together the documents for the Library of Congress. He spent a lot of his time afterwards (he was DA for the Southern District of NY) defending Judge Holt and General Hancock around the country.
