If McCain wants/needs to retire, June 1 of this year is the magic day.
If he’s out before June 1, his seat is up for election in 2018.
If he stays until June 1 or later, the governor is required to appoint a Republican, and the seat will not be up for election until 2020.
From the sound of it, the man won’t make it till June. I have zero respect for that man but it’s still sad for his family.
Good to know. Joking aside, I hope he has a “come-to-Jesus” moment before the end and does what is best for his health and his party.
