They were neutral during WWII. I suspect because they hated the British.

The Irish in Ireland weren't. Americans of Irish descent, however, served in droves - and with distinction. Big difference. Same with the Italians.

WWII was about a hundred years later!

Seven Union generals were Irish-born while an estimated 150,000 Irish-Americans fought for the Union during the war.

The Union Pacific was built primarily by Irish laborers from the Eastern Seaboard who were veterans of the Union and Confederate armies during the Civil War.

The Ulster Irish sure were allies....in WWI and WWII

the 36th lost 2000 dead in a few hours at the Somme

My ancestry ...... ....though they were in the USA 18th century
