At the dawn of the 20th century, strides being made in technology were allowing for the impossible to become possible. One advancement was the development of color photography which quickly took the world by storm.
Images of Kings from far away lands, muddied war trenches and the most innovative automobiles came to life using a method developed by two French brothers in 1907 called the Autochrome Lumiere.
It involved the use of materials considered archaic today, such as potato starch, and was extremely time consuming. But for decades, it was the only way photography could be seen in the way it existed in reality.

THANK YOU mairdie, beautiful babies teeth and all I have a smile ear to ear right now gorgeous animals, Siegfried & Roy had the most BEAUTIFUL white tigers just AMAZING animals!!!!
Did you actually get to SEE the S&R tigers? I heard they were beautiful.
Once again I saw the title and said “Mairdie ?” Sure enough.
Just went up to look at the autochromes. I’ve seen some examples of the process before but the selection assembled here certainly is quite remarkable, both from a technical perspective as well as featuring many outstanding examples of fine art.
I would be remiss if I didn’t send a shout out to Sergey Mikhaylovich Prokudin-Gorsky. He was a contemporary of the Lumiere brothers. His work was brought to the attention of the Czar and he was given the use of a private railroad car for use as his photo lab and documents that allowed him unrestricted travel and access throughout Russia in the years proceeding WWI. There are over 1900 images available on the Library of Congress website... https://www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/prok/ and a nice gallery is available at the end of the Wikipedia article here... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergey_Prokudin-Gorsky
Yes I did see them several times, I live in CA. and used to go to Vegas regularly just to see those tigers they were right in the hotel lobby behind HUGE glass windows!!! It was such a shame that the tiger was startled during their act and caused such harm, the two of them so LOVED those cats and they were beyond beautiful VERY, VERY, well cared for !!!! Those white tigers were beyond magnificent!!!!!
Am I seeing right?
Above the “That’s All ~~~ Brother” is ‘See you in Normandy, in 2019’ ??
It’s an old airplane being brought up to new condition. They must have added that.
