Any suggestions for a good book?

Posted on 01/13/2018 11:16:58 AM PST by A Cyrenian

Can you give me some suggestions for a good read (beside FreeRepublic)?

I've always like Tom Clancy's books and Dean Koontz.

I started using Kindle and thought I would ask you what you liked.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry, but I can’t abide William Fortschen. His stories and characters are maudlin to the extreme, and they invariably break into sobs, especially over old show tunes.

Read "A Galaxy Unknown" by Thomas Diprima on Kindle. You won't be able to stop reading it.

Also the Honor Harrington Series by David Weber.

I also like anything by Clive Cussler who is much like Clancy.

If you like Clancy but have not yet read any books by Matt Bracken then you’re absolutely crazy.

in fact I prefer Brocken over Clancy, by now the guy should be completely famous and Rich.

I discovered Matt Bracken through FR and his books are available for free from Kindle Unlimited. Haven’t read all of them yet, but so far have enjoyed the “Enemies Trilogy”.

In the past ten days I have read:
Hope by Richard Zoglin on the life of Bob Hope
Let Trump Be Trump by Corey Lewandowski and David Bossie
Hacks by Donna Brazile

Now reading Two kinds of Truth by Michael Connelly, A Harry Bosch book.

After that not sure, I have a lot of books in the library to get to.

Finally cut the cord yesterday, so freeing up time for other things.

Try John D MacDonald's Travis McGee novels.

Did you know that John D. MacDonald wrote some SciFi novels? One that was particularly fun was "The Girl, the Gold Watch & Everything."

How about “A Stranger in My Own Hometown” by J W Kerwin?

The first 12 Freepers joining the $300 Club will get an autographed copy of his book. I do not know his Freeper name but he is a member of FR.

Have you heard of Randolph Lalonde’s Spinward Fringe? Discovered it a couple of years ago. Pretty good series. http://randolphlalonde.blogspot.ca

I don’t know. I have yet to read a self-published, “vanity press” work by ANYONE that I liked.

“Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp series.”

I concur, an excellent series but best to read them
in the order that they were published.

I will try the books with Jack Reacher.

I've always like Tom Clancy's books and Dean Koontz.

You've probably already read "The Silent Corner" which is very arkancide/pizzagate-ish.

Anything by James Rollins is a logical tangent from Clancy/Koontz.

Ditto on Elmore Leonard. He was just great.

His philosophy on writing (especially fiction) was very simple, and makes all the sense in the world (paraphrased): If it reads like writing, then it is no good. If it reads like a story, then you have struck gold.
