Dear Democrats: Shut it down
WaPo ^ | 1/15/18 | Bruenig

If Congress cannot agree on a budget plan by Jan. 19, the government will shut down. This isn’t the outcome anyone wants. But Democrats ought to start steeling themselves now: If the Republican majority’s budget plan leaves the “dreamers” in limbo, fails to supply desperately needed aid to Puerto Rico and coastal states battered by natural disaster, or allows the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) to wither away, Democrats need to be ready to shut the whole thing down.

I agree. If they are going to be paid anyway, they should work through the period in question.

Not only democrats. Normal human beings, too!
No matter how long it takes.

It takes all parties to trigger a shutdown. It is most dangerous because it is not real.

Paying elected criminals and federal employees RETROACTIVELY IS AN IMBECILITY.

MAKE IT REAL, OR FORGET ABOUT IT.

No country is so rich as to be able to support ALL the indolent, foreign and domestic.

The way to help PR is to nuke all the politicians and criminals.
Haiti? Take back the embezzled money the Clinton foundation siphoned off and use it wisely for a change.

Has Trump now maneuvered the DemWits into an untenable political position? Where he can assert that DemWits care more for “dreamers” than American citizens? (they do)

That DemWits will shut down government for ALL Americans for less than a million people, who are not even citizens?

Trump’s a fighter DemWits have yet to prevail... he should announce there will be NO salary recovery for Federal workers laid off during the shutdown... and that DemWits caused this!

Conventional LibMedia (anti-)”wisdom” always thinks GOP gets blamed for shutdowns... this time is played right, it will NOT the case!

I believe Trump has enough backbone to even make up for spineless “surrender monkey” Republicans... could be fun to watch.

P.S. who gets to decide what is “essential” government?

Shutting it down, yes, but only if back pay cannot be restored when the government reopens.

Singing a different tune now, aren't they?

Yes, please shut down the government over illegal aliens. Let us know when you want to do something for American citizens.

Wait - but during the Obama admin the WP said people was gonna die if the GOP shut down the government.

But now it’s a noble and just cause...

"If they go through with it this time and force the United States to default on its obligations for the first time in history, it'd be far more dangerous than a government shutdown, as bad as a shutdown is; it would be an economic shutdown.

So I'll speak more on this in the coming days, but let me repeat, I will not negotiate over Congress' responsibility to pay bills it's already racked up. I'm not going to allow anybody to drag the good name of the United States of America through the mud just to refight a settled election or extract ideological demands. Nobody gets to hurt our economy and millions of hardworking families over a law you don't like."

Liberal icon, Barack Obama, as printed in the Washington Post, 10/1/13

Hey dems in Congre$$ please shut down the government, which in real life means, “The biggest impact tends to be on people who work for the government [and] are nonessential employees,” Bernstein said.”

After 30 days, Trump can declare the not working essentials as really Non Essentials.

Then, he can fire all of them and walk away.

We as tax payers and working citizens will not be harmed if zero of the not working, nonessentials never come back to their feather beds.

Do it. Shut the government down - this is not a winning issue for the Democrats. They are hurting citizens to help non citizens.

I say with a Congressional shutdown we furlough 90% of the remaining 50% of the EPA employees to make up the shortfall. Half of the Department of Labor could go as well, those proping up unions.

“When I think of Haiti, I instantly visualize tropical storm devastation and economic collapse. Next, I think of the Clintons profit chasing there.”

How the Clinton Foundation Got Rich off Poor Haitians
It filtered money through Haiti and back to itself.
The following article is excerpted from Dinesh D’Souza’s new book, Hillary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party.

In January 2015 a group of Haitians surrounded the New York offices of the Clinton Foundation. They chanted slogans, accusing Bill and Hillary Clinton of having robbed them of “billions of dollars.” Two months later, the Haitians were at it again, accusing the Clintons of duplicity, malfeasance, and theft.

In May 2015, they were back, this time outside New York’s Cipriani, where Bill Clinton received an award and collected a $500,000 check for his foundation. “Clinton, where’s the money?” the Haitian signs read. “In whose pockets?” Said Dhoud Andre of the Commission Against Dictatorship, “We are telling the world of the crimes that Bill and Hillary Clinton are responsible for in Haiti.”

Trump has made it clear he will give the Dems the Dreamers if they give him the wall plus on immigration, so it’s the Dems fault if there is no dreamer deal.

The first thing the president should do in the event of a shut down is authorize volunteers to take the place of the paid workers. Anyone not working will not get reimbursed once the government is up again.

Volunteers could man the parks, and other “non-essential services”. They could stay shut down for months and we’d save a bundle.

What we need to do next, [FIRST] is to change the policy of paying off-work federal employees [AND ELECTED CRIMINALS and support staff] the retro-active back-pay from the shutdown period.

x100!

Did Ronald Reagan give the aircraft flight controllers idle pay?

I rest my case.
No work, no pay, no exceptions!

One little detail that seems to be a given is that government workers will be PAID retroactively when a shutdown is concluded. But Trump has to sign the bill that pays them. Who says Trump will play that game? Could get interesting!

I pray you are right...

Plan for the best, expect the worse!

I will survive, even if below the so-called poverty level.
