Cross checked - this OP appears to contain typo error. Another article said it was 47.3 C or 117 degrees in Sidney yesterday, just one degree below the record for that city.
The mention of 40 C came from the cancellation of a tennis match once the temp reached 40 C. One of the players said it was much hotter on the court.
