#53 I don't picture it in my mind that way but I think you are correct. Gardiner's Island was a fairly short sail across Block Island Sound and the CT/NY line.

I wish my ancestor had grabbed it ;-). It would have gone down thru another line though. He got awarded land in Wethersfield, CT for fighting in the Pequot Wars and worked as a blacksmith.

Long Island is SOUTH of Old Saybrook. I would have imagined it to be north of it.
