The right wing of a China Southern plane hit the tail of a Kuwait airliner, damaging both aircrafts, the Port Authority said. No one was injured and all the passengers got off safely, according to the Port Authority, which manages all three NYC-area airports.
The China Southern flight was being towed when the planes collided shortly after midnight, the FAA said. Both planes are Boeing 777s.
Kuwait Airways said on Twitter that Flight 118 from New York to Kuwait was struck by the Chinese plane as it was parked before takeoff. The passengers were taken to hotels as they waited for alternative flights, the airline said.

The collision follows long waits at JFK in terminals, on planes on the tarmac and waiting to get luggage the day after Thursday's blizzard shut down the airport.

Another on a different flight added, "Stranded in the airplane for more than 3 hours in #jfkairport waiting for a gate in the “capital of the world” with freezing temperatures outside starting to affect the cabin. This is #ridiculous." (At 3 a.m., it was 10 degrees with a wind chill of -9 at the airport.)
Another passenger, meanwhile, said that passengers began calling 911 from the plane while they waited and others began "to threaten to break open emergency exit."

One in Canada last eve? Two in a twenty four hour period. Trying to play catch up due to the weather. Time for crews and controllers to take a deep breath and look around.
There was some plane at Frankfurt last year that they had folks boarded for a flight to leave, and then deboarded everyone when the plane had issues (they shut the airport down at 11 PM for quiet hours, and resolving the flight was impossible). So they took everyone to some hotel, and brought them back around noon of the next day, and then waited another four to six hours before that international flight could finally take off.
I avoid New York airports, but after an incident in Charlotte years ago, I’ve decided it’s worth a premium to avoid all connections when possible.
A friend told me they had to divert an A-380 to Stewart Airport in Newburgh last night.

Toronto involved 737-800’s while JFK involved 777’s.
Kuwait and China, huh? A pilot once told me he and other pilots watch videos of planes from other countries land and take off amazed at how bad they do it. Doesn’t happen much with American pilots.
It was a joke.
I waited three hours on the plane in Frankfurt one time. Never found out why.

According to article, the China plane was being towed. Presumably, the pilot was not at fault, but the operator of the tow.
