Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Chris Wray made an unannounced visit to Speaker Paul Ryan's office Wednesday as the Justice Department grapples with an increasingly hostile faction of House Republicans demanding documents related to the bureau's Russia probe.
Rosenstein was spotted entering Ryan's office, and a spokesman for the speaker confirmed that Rosenstein and Wray had requested the meeting. A second person familiar with the meeting said it was related to a document request issued over the summer by House intelligence committee chairman Devin Nunes.
Nunes (R-Calif) has mounted an aggressive push with the threat of contempt citations for members of the FBI and Justice Department to glean more information about how the FBI handled a disputed dossier alleging illicit ties between President Donald Trump and the Kremlin.
Unfortunately, DOJ/FBI's intransigence with respect to the August 24 subpoenas is part of a broader pattern of behavior that can no longer be tolerated, Nunes wrote to Rosenstein in a letter provided to Fox News last week.
Nunes is seeking details about meetings between FBI officials and those who helped compile the dossier. He also demanded interviews with a slate of top FBI officials. And he's floated the notion of issuing contempt resolutions against Rosenstein and Wray if they fail to comply.

“Might finally get the rabble roused.”
The rabble is already aware of the FBI treason, and that’s not good for the FBI because the FBI is only good at murdering women, children and babies. As for armed men, the FBI gestapo cowards don’t want to deal with that.
Yep. Turning over documents to Congress is not going to happen until the OIG report is released. Too many leakers on Nunes committee. The trap has to spring at the right time, not a minute before. We'll know tomorrow if Nunes backs off.
If Nunes starts backtracking on contempt of congress citations,
we will know Ryan got to him and the Ryan Tarmac fix is in.
There is no scenario under the sun, no extenuating circumstance that justifies or legally enables the FBI to refuse to comply with this Congressional demand.
Even if it tips off a treasonous traitor.
In ALL scenarios the Congress of the United States is entitled to these documents.
LOL!!!!
“Turning over documents to Congress is not going to happen until the OIG report is released. Too many leakers on Nunes committee. The trap has to spring at the right time, not a minute before. We’ll know tomorrow if Nunes backs off. “
I fail to understand the relevance of the OIG report to whether FBI turns over docs to the Congress which have been legally subpoenaed.
Can you help me with that?
“Two capos of the Swamp visiting to see if they can arrange something with Ryan the Fixer!”
Ryan’s answer should have been, “someone is going to jail over this. Who should it be?” Let Rosenstein make the call.
There are known Rat leakers on Nunes committee (Schiff, Speier, e.g.). It’s probable that the documents contain information that the leakers are in legal jeopardy.
The leakers will also run back to their allies in the FBI and DOJ with information contained in the documents.
There are people on Nunes committee that cannot be trusted with classified information.
“There are people on Nunes committee that cannot be trusted with classified information.”
Then the FBI must convince the Speaker to back off.
Because the US Congress is entitled to these docs under every and all circumstances.
The level of cynicism that Americans have about the DOJ and the FBI is positivily Soviet
Its well earned.
Nobody is in charge anymore.
“Wray: Apparently, somebody spilled some Bleachbit on them.
...
Well, there was a fire at the Clinton house today.”
Coincidence? I think the Clinton’s are having a burn bag party. FBI should send a garbage truck over to the Clinton house to pick up all the shredded papers in the garbage.
I doubt they are threatening or blackmailing the speaker. He could have them both jailed before they were able to exit the building, and impeached the following morning.
Notice that there was a lot of activity today with the perps pulling out the stops in anticipation of the bad news hitting the streets, all of which can be helpful to investigators.
Notice the Fusion GPS editorial in the NY Times and the media propaganda offensive kicked off in anticipation of the FBI/DOJ document dump - plus a bunch of media white noise set off as chaff to obscure and distract from the FBI dossier dump.
Lots of head games being played to mess with the minds of the crooks and force a response and show their cards,
Then again, the FBI and DOJ could just be obstructing.
At some point, Trump can just order all of them to what he wants them to do.
I’d like to see that smirk knocked off of his face. These people need to be dealt with in the most extreme manner.
But the guy was laughing with a smug grin walking out of Ryan’s office. I want to see him grinning like this when he is perp walked in cuffs.
I watched the video several times. Rosenstein is obviously uncomfortable, turns a darker shade of pink to red as the video plays AND he's sweating in the facial area. I think Ryan just might have read him the riot act in his office. In any case Rosenstein doesn't look like a guy who go what he wanted out of the Ryan meeting AND, on another thread, it was commented that Sarah Carter has reported on Fox news that Rosenstein told Ryan the documents will be turned over by the deadline.
My initial thoughts - then decided it meant that it wasn’t announced so “reporters” didn’t get to deluge the place.
You’re probably right. They didn’t tell any reporters, so the visit was “unannounced” - after all, everything IS all about reporters, isn’t it?
Alert because I drink my Ovaltine....;-)
