S-E-C! S-E-C! To the chagrin of most of America, it's Alabama-Georgia for all the marbles

The chant boomed out early in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, and then again late, and a third time even later for good measure. And although it’s enough to trigger a collective gag reflex in 39 states plus several U.S. territories, it’s a fact-based champion’s chant. “S-E-C! S-E-C!” the Alabama fans thundered, when the final score of the Rose Bowl was announced and league brethren Georgia had advanced to the College Football Playoff title game.

“Iowa is from the toughest conference in college. They’d be #1 or #2 if they played in the SEC.”

Like two loss who?
You sound like all the other SEC haters.
Champs since 2006:

2016 Clemson CFP
2015 Alabama CFP
2014 Ohio State CFP
2013 Florida State BCS
2012 Alabama BCS
2011 Alabama BCS
2010 Auburn BCS
2009 Alabama BCS
2008 Florida BCS
2007 Louisiana State BCS
2006 Florida

8/11 = 72.7%
Two of three wins to SEC teams

Based on your logic. Ivy league is still #1. They have more championships than Big10 and SEC combined.

Also based on your logic. Big10 is better than SEC: https://www.cheatsheet.com/sports/youll-never-guess-which-conference-has-the-most-cfb-national-titles.html/?a=viewall

It isn’t logic, it is truth. As I stated, currently, the SEC is dominant. That’s why I called out the years I stated, but you already know that. You just want to argue.

Did you include the year that the SEC was the only teams allowed in the finals? And this year where the committee cheated and gave them two teams? Many of those years it was committee rigging that enabled them to win. See how easy that is?

The 4 team tourney was a good start by the committee screwed it up in favor of the SEC the past two years. Last year they didn’t take the Big10 champ (fears they would beat the SEC team). This year they didn’t take the Big10 champ again...and they left out the only undefeated team. Oh and that undefeated team beat Auburn...so clearly they were deserving. You see this year gets an * by it just like every other year. except for the first 2 years of the tourney. The committee realized they had to cheat for the SEC to stay on top. After all ESPN paid $2.5B for the SEC and has to recoup their money.

Also why did you go back to 2006? Why not go back to 2000?

It's only a rough proxy for the relative toughness of conferences, but the number of players in the NFL from various conferences can be informative: http://www.espn.com/blog/pac12/post/_/id/91053/breaking-down-nfl-rosters-by-conferences-and-colleges.

The point that no one on this entire thread has made:

While UCF played a bunch of patsy teams until faced with Auburn, THEY ARE THE NUMBER ONE SCORING TEAM IN THE COUNTRY.

Which means, that in their 13-0 season, they have about 11 very lopsided wins. Their QB was jaw dropping incredible, and there is a reason that Power 5 Nebraska recruited their coach.

‘Make the Conference Championship Game winners automatically qualify, and there’s your ten-team playoff right there.’

better yet, limit the right to play for the title to forty teams distributed through four conferences, ten teams per, who then play a round robin schedule, and eliminate these ridiculous conference championship games...with 130 teams, a four team playoff is absurd; the history of college football suggests the same schools annually dominating, how difficult would it be to determine the top 40 who actually have the wherewithal to win it all...?

‘This year, for example, the Big Ten was arguably the strongest conference. The bowl results certainly suggest that.’

the bowl record suggests that because it had no playoff team, the BIG benefited with some highly favorable match-ups...Kentucky, Boston College, Arizona, a badly fading Miami...last year, the same BIG with less favorable games went 3-7; conferences don’t change overall strength in the space of one year...

"You people..."??

I can assure you that I had nothing to do with it. Heck, I don't even watch the games.

‘Meanwhile, the Big10 has put together a very, very powerful conference covering a huge portion of the country’s population centers.’

please inform us of the BIG’s bowl records the past two years prior to this...

‘The Big10/Pac12 university presidents and athletic directors need to get off of their keesters and wield some of the great power that they have been amassing through their recent restructurings.’

whatd they need to do is see to it that their champs don’t lose two games during the season, by large margins of defeat...OSU-Iowa, 31 point differential, USC-ND, 35 point differential...

‘And the squib kick before halftime was a bonehead call.’

nothing was boneheaded about the call; coaches do it all the time to prevent a potential long return...what was boneheaded was kicking it right to a guy who smartly downed the ball immediately...

and the kicker still had to hit the longest field goal in Rose Bowl history, or else no one would be talking about it...

‘Without gifting the 3 points to GA at the half OU wins outright in regulation.’

the ‘gift’ was an attempt at the longest FG in Rose Bowl history, which against all odds the guy hit...

Siebert had been kicking the ball out of the end zone all half. Another such kick would have placed the ball at the GA 25 instead of at midfield.

The solution is simple: we need a total rethink of the entire college football season. It should go like this:

1. 11-game schedule, with eight in-conference and three out-of-conference games. And no more Division 1 FBS teams can play Division 1 FCS teams.

2. No poll rankings until after 4th week of the season.

3. New ranking system based on an updated version of the old BCS ranking (computer polls plus AP human poll). This starts after the 7th week of the season.

4. Two highest-ranked teams in the Big 5 conferences play in a 12th game for the conference championship. There will be no more splitting conferences into divisions.

5. After the conference championships, new ranking system determines #1 to #8 team, with the top four teams hosting games at their home stadiums in early December (#1 vs #8, #2 vs #7, #3 vs #6 and #4 vs #5).

6. Winners of the first four games are re-ranked. With new rankings, #1 plays #4 and #2 plays #3 on New Year's Day bowl games (games will start at 3 pm and 7 pm Eastern time on New Year's Day).

7. Last two teams play for championship seven to eight days later.

The gift was to put GA in that position in the first place with a failed squib quick that didn’t travel but 10 yards from the point of kickoff...

‘The gift was to put GA in that position in the first place with a failed squib quick’

which was only failed because of a remarkable get by the Georgia player who smartly downed the ball immediately...otherwise, five or six seconds go off the clock and Georgia takes a knee; coaches do this all the time...
