This thread saddens me. My husband died 5 years ago, and I am just now able to climb out of the mind-numbing grief. We would have been married for 51 years yesterday.

We were a good fit. Not perfect, as we were opposites in some ways, but we managed to complement each other, and accepted our differences. I am doing “ok” now without him, but will never be happy again.

I will manage because my children expect me to be independent and optimistic, so I keep my sense of “aloneness” from them. They are in happy marriages, with full lives. My loneliness for my life-mate, best friend, and partner must be endured alone.

So many are like me. We put on a pleasant face, try to help our children when needed, and try to stay put of the way most of the time. We make friends of other widows, and we share our memories of how happy we once were, when we had our husbands to love, to care for, and to share secret feelings with.

We feel lost without our life-partners, and can’t wait to find out if we will see them again in the hereafter. That is not promised to us, but it is promised that we will no longer feel the pain of loss.

Tony, I miss you, and I wish I were with you. Thank you for being my husband, for loving me, inspite of my faults. Thank you for everything you did to love and support me, and our children.

I pray that you are with God, and that He enfolds you into Heaven, and that you no longer suffer. I love you until the end of time, forever.

That’s lovely. You will be together again.

I’m sorry for your loss, but truly happy for the joy you had in your marriage. I suspect you had more than most.

I am so very sorry for your loss and how it’s changed your life. I hope those fellow women bring some comfort. It’s my belief you will be united with your beloved. {hug}
