The Justice Department is refusing to reveal details of the process that led up to former FBI Director Robert Mueller being granted an ethics waiver to serve as special counsel investigating the Trump campaign's alleged collusion with Russia during the 2016 presidential election.
In response to a POLITICO Freedom of Information Act request, the agency released a one-sentence memo Friday confirming that Mueller was granted a conflict-of-interest waiver in order to assume the politically-sensitive post.
The waiver is believed to relate to Mueller's work in recent years as a partner at the WilmerHale law firm, which also represented former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, as well as White House adviser Jared Kushner, who is also President Donald Trump's son-in-law.
However, the document signed by Justice's top career official, Associate Deputy Attorney General Scott Schools, provides no detail at all of the grounds for the waiver. In fact, it's so vague that it doesn't even convey why anyone would think Mueller needed such a release.

I wonder what the media response would have been if Ken Starr had been granted a waiver and the DOJ refused to discuss it.....
Anybody who thinks Trump has full control of the DOJ is a blind fool at this point.
I see it was signed by Scott Schools, probably at the behest of Rosenstein.
The hidden caveat was “Whatever you decide, talk quietly, so nobody wakes Old Man Sessions from his blissful slumber!
We’re in the Cat-Bird seat for now, don’t mess it up!”
Never heard of this Scott Schools guy for being a ‘top’ brass.
Rip Van Sessions.
Mueller has so many new conflicts of interest being learned on a daily basis, they have to keep the complete form secret because it’s a dynamically growing document.
Sessions should have returned to AL and let a LEADER run DOJ.
Sessions is the swamp!
Indeed his connections are in question.
Where is Waldo Sessions?
He is AWOL on everything.
Looks like Rosenstien is making ALL the decisions.
“Robert Mueller being granted an ethics waiver to serve as special counsel investigating the Trump “
That about says it all...
Mueller, Rosenstien, and Sessions ALL need to go.
Oh, but Sessions is a nice guy.
Anybody remember what Leo Durocher said about nice guys?
I rest my case.
How does one “waive” ethics?
He’s either pregnant or he isn’t.

I disagree. We’ll find out much more in the near future.
Then again, even a blind hog finds a truffle once in a while.
Sessions is fully behind this latest allegation. He is using his Senator wise status to hide behind everything. The cowards way out. Stepping down for conflicts that aren;t there and then giving Mueller a complete free pass on all the conflicts. Doesn’t make any sense. Sessions doesn’t have to answer any questions.
It’s maddening beyond belief how these roaches called “public servants” are capable of putting themselves above the law with utter impunity!
