IMHO, Dr Zhivago is the greatest movie ever made. But having an appreciation of Russian history helps.

Dr. Zhivago is a great movie. I see lots of movies here I think are well above average that fellow FReepers dislike. If they knew more about them maybe they would appreciate them more. Dr. Z was a long movie and that turns some people off.

I prefer "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly", "Second-hand Lions", or "Quigly Down Under".

Russian history wouldn't help Dr. Z because it is no more than an epic chick flick.
