Dear Hillary Clinton,
When your daughter, Chelsea, mentioned in her speech at the Democratic National Convention that you both loved Pride and Prejudice, I was delighted and not at all surprised. Elizabeth Bennet is a superb example of a romance heroine: intelligent, articulate, independent and wonderfully imperfect. She is also an incredibly unconventional character for her time, placing a high value on her own happiness, insisting that others treat her with respect and marrying a man only on her terms. No wonder Darcy falls in love with her and no wonder Pride and Prejudice is such a beloved romance novel.
o how disappointing it was to hear you mischaracterize the whole romance novel industry in a recent interview with Washington Post editorial board member Jonathan Capehart. You suggested that men and women gather abusive attitudes from reading romance novels about women being grabbed and thrown on a horse and ridden off into the distance.
As a romance author who has always loved the genre (and as a Wellesley graduate who has always loved and admired you), Im glad that attitudes about women are being discussed during this incredible moment in American history. But your comment, especially pulled out of context, doesnt represent all romance novels. Its a misleading cliche about the genre like so many misleading cliches about your fabulous trailblazing life.
(snip)
During your legendary Wellesley College commencement speech in 1969, you looked into an unknown future and said, Fear is always with us but we just dont have time for it. Not now. You headed forward fearlessly and achieved so many of your dreams, including love, marriage and family.
This is why I consider you an honorary romance heroine no pedestal required, just a pantsuit.

A phrase which will never ever be used to describe how any dude views Hillary.
Though we do wish she would ride off into the distance.
And I remember Bubba and with all the power in his voice declared "I did not have sex with...
And here Monica thought it was True Love.
They also tried to say the creepy Gore and Tippy romance was the basis for Love Story.
Bill Clinton and Marc Mevshinsky are the Darcy’s of their respective generations.

A huge problem with “romance” as seen by liberals, is this. Let’s take Rock Hudson/ Doris Day movies for examples. She hates him, she hates him, she asks him to go away. He persists, he keeps after her, he stalks her. She ends up his; emotionally welded to him at the shoulders and hip.
What message does this send to women? You must resist and pretend not to be interested. What message to men? Women will always pretend not to be interested. You must persist. Just keep at them. Do anything required. You can even kidnap her. She will eventually come around and love you.
Most “romance” stories are like this. The man, who does almost anything the main male, jaded rake, character does, would get arrested for doing it. The women characters are essentially lying.
The narrative conventions that make a “romance” novel are not acceptable as actual behavior.
Jane Austin was an excellent study of human character. If she had had opportunity to meet Hillary Clinton, she would have seen through Hillary Clinton in 2 seconds. There are power hungry, shrewish, manipulating, cruel characters in her novels. They are never the heroines.

Treacle overload!!
Chee-zuz, do they know how stupid this article sounds?
(Apparently not...)
“[She]...placing a high value on her own happiness, insisting that others treat her with respect and marrying a man only on her terms...”
In other words: vain, self-absorbed, and a PITA.
A real catch. /s
> you are a romance novel heroine <
If Stalin were alive today, he’d be very jealous. Because the cult of personality around Hillary Clinton is even greater than what Uncle Joe had.
“Jane Austen? Why I go so far as to say that any library is a good library that does not contain a volume by Jane Austen. Even if it contains no other book.”
Mark Twain
And put her on a polygraph and see if she read it. Hillary has never read it. Reading is against her ignorant personality. Although she will pose with books, and make literary references her staff has provided for her.
[Hillary] “suggested that men and women gather abusive attitudes from reading romance novels about women being grabbed and thrown on a horse and ridden off into the distance.
Hillary has no concept of romance. She reveals it here by characterizing it like a photo-op that ends after the lovers ride off “into the distance”. They ride off into the sunset, you dimwitted, vindictive old hag! And the lovers WANT to run away together.
Liberals taint, corrupt, and destroy everything they touch.
Guaranteed bestseller!
Oh gawd, the Hymn to Hillary redux.
You don’t know Fabio, he’d be repulsed at the thought, he’s a Deplorable.
Funny thing...I’ve read and enjoyed many of Ms. Kleypas’s romance novels. If Hillary reminds Kleypas of a romance novel heroine, it’s not one of Kleypas’s.
The closest that murdering hag ever got to heterosexual romance was Vince, and we know how that turned out.
