After the Dallas Cowboys lost to the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday, some fans on social media started to call for quarterback Tony Romo to come out of retirement.
The Cowboys lost their third straight game -- and it was also the third straight game where quarterback Dak Prescott failed to toss a touchdown and the second straight with multiple interceptions.
Prescott, who threw only four interceptions in 2016, has thrown five in the last two weeks and nine this season.
Romo, who retired and became a broadcaster for CBS last season after losing his starting role due to injury, smiled and waved to fans at AT&T Stadium calling for him to get on the field. Some of the reaction can be seen below.
The problem is not with the quarterback.
Offensive line, defensive line.
They have the best offensive line in the league.
The best O line in the league let their QB get sacked six times by one player?
I don’t get it either, but they were the best the last few years, and they are young.
No f’in way, Jose. The punishment Zak took through his porous offensive line would have put Romo right back in the hospital. I’ve written this season off, and haven’t even watched the last quarter of the last two games. But it’s not through any fault of Zak.
Kneeling has consequences, Jerry.
Meanwhile over in Philly, they have baptized several players, a QB who is solid in his faith and they are 10-1 and odds on favorite to win the NFC.....
Who cares? The NFL is full of traitorous bastards. They need to go out of business.
Fans? What fans?
As I have not watched, is this a locker room war between the kneelers and the adults? Was Prescott a stander? were the tackles kneelers?
I have payed enough attention because of the off-the field news and the Elliot debacle continued by Goodell. How much of an effect of not having your go-to running back altering the game plan to more passing and subsequently more sacks because the defense can blitz on every play?
Romo wold bring nothing, absolutely nothing to the team but another broken back.
Jerry had a chance to do the Solomon show of wisdom but then decided to go ahead a cut the baby in half in that team kneel/not kneel stupidity. That started the crescendo of F-ups by all involved from Goodell on down and it won’t stop until Goodell is ousted along with the two goofs in the yesterday’s event where everyone went to see a fight and all of a sudden a football game breaks out.
So once again, idiot fans think that only a QB can save or break a team. The entire team is having issues ... not just the QB. Morons.
Correction: “They *had* the best offensive line in the league.”
Several of last years O-line players are injured and a few have left the team. The replacements are not as good. And the defensive secondary is mediocre at best.
Also the Cowboys are very overrated. They had a poor year in 2015 which set them up to play the dregs of the No Fathers League in 2016. They had a great year in 2016 by basically picking off the low-hanging fruit and now, without any significant upgrade in personnel, they are playing the better teams. The Cowboys *may* get to 8-8 but they will be watching the playoffs from their sofa.
The Eagles are in the same scenario albeit one year later. They are doing great but are not playing the cream of the league because of their previous year. They will probably win the NFC but expect them to go 8-8 next year.
With Da Iggles, the best you can hope for is one good season per decade, if that.
I thought it was the National FELONS League?
Watched my first NFL games on Thursday. House full of people, kinda hard not to. As much as I enjoyed watching Romo try so hard over the years and fail come playoff time, I have to admit it... He was actually a pretty good color commentator. Good insight and, given that they had him on the Cowboys game, he was pretty even handed.
Romo is making plenty of money without getting popped all the time. He would be a total idiot to give up his new career.
