Let me explain how things come down in a small town. Small town boy goes away to military - college (In the judges case West Point followed by law school). When he returns to his home town every mother with a daughter from fourteen to forty sees him as a “good catch”
When the Judge stated initially “not without her mothers approval” it was an ahah moment. Even happened to our pastor (retired school superintendent)
The good girls his age are already married with families. The virtuous non married are younger. It’s been this way for ever. Should he have forgone a wife and family or chose a virtuous younger wife?
If it’s ok with her mother who are we to judge
So, everyone his age - thirty years old, dated teenaged girls? Wrong. I grew up in a small town. Served, moved back. A thirty year old man dating a teenaged girl is wrong. Parse it anyway you want. You state your opinion, ill state mine. Most of the “mom approved it” stories for teenaged girls I see these days are related to single black women and they don’t end well.
So this is the truth. A friend and fellow cheerleader from my HS, class of 1966, Began secretly dating our HS basketball coach and history teacher in our junior year. She was just seventeen, he was thirty. I know because I was her excuse to who she would be with, like doing homework.......when it came out, they got married and she started going to night school. She also came to the basketball games, but as a wife not a cheerleader. A good friend of his, the math teacher, who I NEVER went out with, asked me a week before graduation, to go to Austrailia with him. I declined, but I never thought of it as inappropriate, just strange that out of the blue he would ask me that.

operative word(s) in your reply is ... “these days”
Dating married women is usually frowned on.
